The University of Utah’s Health Care System was formed in 1905 with the introduction of two medical courses to the school’s biology department. By 1912, a two-year medical program was implemented and became a fully-accredited degree-granting program in 1944. The first cancer research building opened in 1951 as part of the health sciences campus, and the University of Utah Medical Center was completed in 1965. The institute takes a collaborative approach to research, as scientists and doctors work together to investigate the genetics of cancer, as well as develop novel treatments.
